LAVINGTON EAST PS COMPLETES THEIR “FROG POND” WORK
The Team hard at it !!

This was the third and last visit of the Team (20 students, one teacher) from Lavington East PS for 2006 where they continued to make enormous progress on the Wonga Wetlands Frog Pond as part of the Schools’ Environment Project, sponsored by the Murray Wetlands Working Group and coordinated by The Aquatic Environment Education Centre.

The previous visits concentrated on mapping the vegetation in the Pond, removing weeds, reintroducing frog-friendly habitat such as rocks and logs and planting native riparian vegetation. The group has worked enthusiastically and have really made an enormous difference.

The final visit involved the collecting and planting of aquatic vegetation in the pond itself which will also increase the available appropriate habitat for the frogs. The two main species identified from their physical presence and calls during the work are the Common Froglet and the Spotted Marsh Frog.

The team were treated to a sausage sizzle at the end of their work. This meal was prepared by the well-known Cordon Bleu chef Peter Hercum, aka as the Principal of Lavington East PS. Thanks to all concerned !
