WIRES and Wonga Wetlands
A class lesson

WIRES is a community organisation reliant on volunteers to attend to, nurse, rehabilitate and ultimately release injured/lost/orphaned native animals. Their “amateur” status belies the training that each of these volunteers undertakes in order to deal confidently and competently with the animals they are looking after.

A greatful possum going home.

Lesson 1:This is a bird!

This training takes place at weekend courses which deal with the various groups of animals ranging from birds through mammals to reptiles and equips the volunteer with the skills that they may need to call upon when summoned by a responsible member of the public who has encountered an animal in distress.

Practice makes perfect.

Congratulations graduates!!

Courses dealing with Birds and Mammals will be held over the weekends 4-5 August (Birds) and 29-30 September (Mammals). Details of the courses and of the activities of WIRES can be obtained from Wendy Whitten on 0260431713
