The Aquatic Environment Education Centre

In 2002 La Trobe University, the Murray Darling Freshwater Research Centre and Charles Sturt University provided Albury City with a transportable building, The Michael Ryan Laboratory, to establish the the Aquatic Environment Education Centre at Wonga Wetlands.

The building was moved from the River Murray floodplain to its present site, fully refurbished, equipped and resourced in order to cater for all groups from the community, through schools to the universities. Mike Copland was appointed as the Environmental Projects Coordinator for AlburyCity and retired on 31/01/2008. John Hawkins is now responsible for the various education and community programmes at the Centre.

The Aquatic Environment Education Centre provides information, field work, laboratory work, individual school programmes at all levels, specific HSC/VCE courses and lectures and tours to visiting community groups and universities/TAFEs. It has become a favoured venue for meetings, seminars and workshops for government and community groups and organisations.
