The two groups worked alternatively on macroinvertebrate collection and identification and then on the observation and recording of flora and fauna during a riparian walk. The “bug” collectors had to keep a HYPOTHESIS in mind as they went about their work and now they have returned to class will need to decide if the HYPOTHESIS with supported or disproved !!

The “walkers” recorded a large number of plants and animals that they observed along the banks of Bagnall's Range Lagoon, many of them eating and being eaten by each other. The task back in the classroom is to make as many FOOD CHAINS and a FOOD WEB from their records. Both groups were impressed by the number and way of life of the inhabitants of a typical River Red Gum leaf as shown under the microscope !!
