The extremely dry conditions at Wonga Wetlands meant that the work of the biology students from Xavier HS was harder than normal this year, due to the loss of many plants and the moving away of many animals.
However the essential skills needed for a meaningful biology field trip report were in evidence and many food chains and food webs were “untangled”. The idea of “scats” and their value in understanding the presence and activities of animals was a key new skill introduced on the day.

It is to be hoped that some of the students who worked hard in the trying conditions last Friday will opt to participate in the 2007 Rotary/Murray Darling Easter School for Freshwater Research.
