51 Year 11 students from the far corners of the Murray - Darling Basin gathered at the Scots School Albury for the 13th Rotary Murray Darling Easter School for Freshwater Research. From Adelaide to Goondiwindi and Melbourne to Canberra the students, all sponsored by their local Rotary Clubs, were selected to work for a week with the scientists from the Murray - Darling Freshwater Research Centre, Charles Sturt University and La Trobe University, in order to gain a better understanding of freshwater ecosystems.

Experiences with the biology, geography and chemistry of billabongs as well as platypus sightings, bat trapping and visits to the two universities and Norske Skog were all part of the week’s programme.

There were breaks from the science with a social night, speakers from previous Schools and a physical challenge. Students reports highlighted their satisfaction with the week and special mention was made of the roles of scientists and mentors and the quality and amount of the food in the Scots School dining room !!
