Also known as Yellowbelly, Callop or Murray Perch, the Golden Perch is found throughout the Murray-Darling Basin and adjacent inland waters.
Adult fish are commonly 50-60cm in length and 5kg in weight, but can grow up to 75cm and 23kg. They frequent the slower reaches and backwaters of the streams, feeding on crayfish and shrimp.
During the spring and summer high water, they can move considerable distances upstream to breed. A female can deposit over 500,000 eggs, each about 4mm in diameter.
