Also called the Redfin Perch or English Perch, this species was introduced in the 1860s and has since spread throughout southern Australia. Although blamed for some reduction in native species, they are 'tolerated' because of their popularity as good eating fish.
With a carnivorous diet consisting of other fish and invertebrates, adult redfin can grow up to 60cm in length and 10kg in weight
Breeding takes place at night in early spring when, in an area away from fast currents, the female produces an elongated egg mass up to 3 metres in length.
