River Red Gum

The River Red Gum is the most common tree along the rivers and streams of the Murray Darling Basin.

The red in its name derives from the colour of its heavy, durable timber.

Over the years its timber has had many uses, including riverboat fuel, wharf pilings, railway sleepers, construction and furniture.
