Cumbungi

A native perennial plant with erect flat leaves, the Cumbungi grows to 4m.

The flowering part of the plant (inflorescence) is prominent and distinctive, with tightly packed flowers in a spike. Each spike produces vast numbers of seeds.

The plant provides habitat for small animals, and grazing for stock. Its subterranean stems (rhizomes) provide a starchy food for humans.
