Wonga Wetlands

Pacific Azolla

A free floating fern of only 1-2.5cm in diameter, Pacific Azolla tend to occur in mass - sometimes covering the entire free water surface.

In full sun, it turns a reddish colour as it gets older.

Being a fern, it doesn't have flowers.

The images show the green and red stages of the plant and also its common association with "Duckweed" (Lemna spp.).
