Dragonfly

This yellow and black adult dragonfly is often seen making short, darting feeding flights during the day or at twilight.

Growing up to 50mm in length, this carnivorous species has aquatic larval stages known as 'mudeyes'.

Fertilised eggs are inserted into vegetation or deposited directly in the water, hatching into vigorous larvae. The larval stage may take between a few months and three years to complete. The final larval stage leaves the water before emerging as the adult.
