Individual projects include:
- the description and characterisation of new species of plants and animals
- the use of algae and invertebrates to assess the health of individual waters
- genetic studies examining the relationships between organisms in adjacent catchments or river systems
- detailed biological assessment of individual billabongs
- examination of fish survival within the extreme conditions experienced within floodplain ecosystems.
Other research within the Department relates to reptiles, marsupials and birds, and to issues concerned with waste management and pollution control.
