IT’S A LONG WAY FROM SWIFTS CREEK
Observing the Bird Species

The VCE students and teachers from Swifts Creek Secondary College visited Wonga Wetlands to gain a better understanding of how Albury Water manages its treated wastewater and to experience Wonga Wetlands.

We all produce wastes that go directly into the sewage system, but we rarely think about what happens to these wastes next. Waterview Water Treatment Works just out of Albury is the key to Albury's treatment of its waste water.

The group was given a brief introduction to Wonga Wetlands in the classroom including why it was constructed, how it is operated and how the whole Waterview/Wonga association works.  This was followed by a bus tour of the wastewater treatment facility and then down to the irrigated woodlots and the lagoons of Wonga, looking at the “natural” cycle of wetting-drying in the lagoons and some of the majestic River red Gums and the myriad birds.

Why are there so many Birds??
