Waterwatch
Waterwatch Australia was initiated in 1993 and is now a national community water quality monitoring network. This site contains a vast amount of information about how to sample, what you might find and what it means.
The Wetlands Centre
A great site which shows just what can be done with plenty of local enthusiasm. (See Ramsar listing) The species lists are particularly comprehensive and informative.
The Bug Survey
Each year schools and community groups throughout NSW survey their local waterways for macroinvertebrates and add the "bugs" they find to the state database. This leads to a better appreciation of the quality of their water and how/if it is changing. Excellent bug lists and illustrations.
